a bien l'usb.

"Pekka Saarinen" a écrit : I could not agree more with you. But the purpose of these pages was (for me) to get an idea of how the Canon and the G1 work in automatic exposure mode, because I was never able to see such a comparison anywhere. The idea behind this test is to know the *limitations* of such (auto) mode. Knowing this I should then be able to use it when it is OK, and devote more time to parameters tweaking in Manual mode otherwise. I had quite a goof feeling for the Nikon for this, but wanted to get the same idea for the Canon. Maybe this was not expressed clearly enough in my (lack of) comments on my web pages. > For example, you the resolution comparison images are underexposed
by For the resolution comparison I effectively did auto-level on the "zoomed" part in order to see details in a similar way for both cameras. This is the only place where I used auto-levels because as said I wanted to get the feeling of the "automatic" mode. The comments on the white balance are made from the *original* picture, not the corrected one. I agree that I should give more details on the conclusions or comments I made. > In macro tests, you have not focused G1 properly. It does not work
I know I butched somewhat the macro results and could have done better, time was just too short on that day for me :-) I'll work again on this page. > Maybe I'm wrong here, and maybe people buy these cameras only for Yes, give me some time to do this on the Canon, but sadly I won't have my Nikon any more at that time, it will be sold in the 3 coming days :-( I have some "optimum results" pictures taken with my Nikon but not from the Canon. So comparison on that base was not possible for me at this time. > and THEN showed the comparison photos it would have told much more
for people I certainly hope to show excellent pictures from my G1 and bought it in order to be a small PEKAA in this field (thanks for showing the way). I will also publish them on my website at that time in order to show what can be achieved from the G1 as you do. > I'm glad people have enthusiasm to do such tests, but more care should
As you mention, it takes time to do this and sadly days have only 24
hours ;-) > Cheers, Comments always welcome to improve my hobby. |
04/03/2001 "Tuong Nguyen" > Unless the photos are retouched, i have to say overall, the Nikon takes
a |
My answer : Some comments on my web site and experiments with the G1. The pictures taken were not corrected at all for light or color. The only transformations on the original pictures were resize and some sharpening. By the way, you have the possibility to download some "original" pictures from the page "résolution" if you click on the presented thumbnails, so you will be able to judge by yourselves if you want to. After a few days of use of my new G1, the automatic exposition metering system of the Nikon looks to be overall better. Effectively the night shots are better on the Canon, and you see this even though the pictures I took did not yet make any kind of use of the noise reduction system which is supposed to start only at exposures longer than 1,3s (mine were 1s if I remember correctly). This is certainly due to the excellent ISO 50 capability of the Canon. Bear in mind that the pictures I am presenting are taken in automatic mode for both cameras (or Program mode to force ISO at 50 for the Canon and ISO 100 for the Nikon). So you can certainly get much better pictures from the G1, like our frind Pekaa (great pictures Pekaa !) demonstrates every day. My purpose here, was to present the differences in *automatic exposition* as I did not find this answer when I was looking for a replacement for my trusty 950. Still, my Canon is much faster to take pictures, expecially to recycle flash between shots and I am quite happy with everyday's use, except the long time taken to switch it on (nearly 10s with a 340 Mb microdrive). I do not desparate to get better control of it with the time, and will begin to shoot .raw pictures in a few days to give me the full control on white balance. Hope this helps. Maybe I will post these messages on a board somewhere on my site. If you do not want to be quoted (your e-mail won't appear) please say so and I will take it back. Cheers, Olivier. |
